Revenge
“There’s no Oil news - I’m going to cancel sending the newsletter tomorrow, unless a bomb goes off” - one of the Editors of this newsletter, last night
Well, it’s a new decade.
And this decade, we’re proposing the retirement of the phrase “unless a bomb goes off”, and replacing it with “unless there’s a drone strike”…
…so that we can literally eat our own words -
IRAQ.
General Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force, was killed by a US drone strike in Iraq.
The strike is viewed to be a retaliation for protesters that attacked the US embassy in Baghdad.
The embassy attack was viewed as retaliation for… well, at this point, it goes back so far, who knows where it really begins.
40yrs ago, at least.
In 21st century military combat, it’s relatively easy to kill anyone with a drone / rocket strike.
Restraint has typically been withheld - regardless of right or wrong - in using these methods to assassinate government officials.
Especially government officials of countries that the US is not at war with.
That ended Friday morning.
We are not experts on Iran.
But, one of our friends is - if you’re looking for an Iran expert (particularly from the perspective of Oil), then we recommend Homayoun Falakshahi, from Kpler.
That’s it from us - we’ll be back next week, with our regularly scheduled E&P programming -
